Our hip arthroscopy practice continued to grow in 2012.  In this calendar year we performed over 100 arthroscopic and minimally invasive hip procedures.  We were able to treat multiple Division I athletes from local universities as well as numerous local high school athletes.  In 2012 we noted a rise in the diagnosis or femoroacetabular impingement.  This was likely due to better community awareness of the problem.  Increasingly primary care physicians and fellow orthopaedic surgeons are recognizing what signs/symptoms to look  for in making the diagnosis.  We have several community outreach lectures planned for 2013 in an attempt to continue to educate patients and the local medical community about hip arthroscopy.  I would like to thank the physicians at CJW Sports Medicine who have been invaluable in screening patients for hip pathology, educating patients/therapists, and promoting continuing medical education in the community.  The dedication of these physicians to provide elite primary care to athletes, both you and old, is an example to be followed.  We look forward to continuing to provide “complete hip care” to patients of all ages in our community and the state of Virginia.  We routinely receive consultation requests from adjacent metropolitan areas including Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, and Newport News.  We are happy to see patients from all areas of the Commonwealth.
